Untitled Journey (Reise uten tittel) is the third exhibition where Kyllingmark works with layered photography, triple exposures on analog film. After many years of working with this technique, she constantly goes deeper into the technical and the intuitive way of balancing the three images up against each other. She shares a quest for both harmony and disharmony between the three exposures melting together on the negative film.

In the pictures there is a combination of both reality and imagination. Every single exposure is derived from reality, but together they create an imaginary reality towards the surreal. Then becoming a mixture of something that exists and something that does not exist. In this way the pictures question what is really real. There is both light and sound outside the spectrum a human can perceive meaning what we see and hear is not the total picture of what exists. For Kyllingmark this opens for an imagination of reality both close and far away from real life.

Despite the vast knowledge and experience there is still an element of coincidence in Kyllingmark's work.Exactly which line or form that hits the other lines and shapes is impossible to predict 100%. “For me this is about surrendering parts of the work to something outside myself. A kind of association with nature and life around me. No matter how much I try to control, I still have to let go of the control to get the best results. "

The images move through light and dark stories. On one level, there is a disturbing thought about mutated plants and biology growing freely beyond the laws of nature. The effect of climate change on nature is an ongoing story we do not know where ends and our relationship with nature is a crucial factor on this journey.

Erle M. Kyllingmark (b. 1974) lives and works in Oslo. She took her BA (Hons) Photography at the London College of Printing in 1999.
Kyllingmark has created two large video installations for The Norwegian Opera & Ballet in 2013 and 2016. As a filmmaker, she is best known for the documentary film
"Life is goddamn wonderful" which was nominated for best TV documentary in 2010.
